Construction over $1 million—$2 million
Mead Con successfully tendered the contract to provide NW accommodation for patients that require full time care and supervision after receiving injuries encountered in motor vehicle accidents. The provision of this type of facility on the north west/west coast will greatly assist the injured person's relatives who would normally have to commute to Launceston to see their loved ones.
The contract involved the formation of a cul-de-sac off the end of Cornelia Street in Ulverstone and the construction of a group accommodation building (500m2), that consists of several living areas, a kitchen, a laundry, 3 en-suites servicing 6 bedrooms, administration office and staff amenities along with 4 (125m²) units.
Conventional concrete slab, brick veneer, colourbond roof and powder coated aluminium window construction was complimented with shadow clad linings to gables and above windows and doors to all elevations. The group house is fully air conditioned, containing a fire detection and sprinkler system and a walk about security system that prevents patients from leaving the building un-detected.
The units are designed for full disabled access and use, with kitchen benches and bathrooms designed specifically with wheel chair use in mind. A lovely outlook has been provided with landscaped garden, lawn areas and raised garden beds, allowing for wheel chair access to all areas. MAIB have retained further blocks within the subdivision with the intent of providing additional units should there be a need for more accommodation in the future.
